I’ve moved!

11 May

If you remember back to my 40-at-40 list, you may recall item #4 – “build a website”. I called it complete, but this blog wasn’t exactly what I had in mind… I really wanted to see if I could figure out a .com and do a couple of things that I was limited to in this space. Well, I figured it out! I hope you’ll visit me at my new web home:

Thanks so much for visiting!

vacation – day six

8 Sep

Sadly, I’ve arrived at our last full day of vacation. Don’t worry… we made the most of it!

We started out the morning on the lake first thing… my first time experiencing “the glass” on water skis. It was a different experience and so much fun. After we came back to the house and had breakfast, we took the boats and headed across the lake to a place called Beauty Bay. It was quiet and smooth and a great place to anchor for the day and enjoy the water. Eric towed the kids (and Barb!) on the knee board and the tubes. Even Alex had a go on the knee board and was hooked. We ate lunch and just really enjoyed our last day of lake time.

Willow & Me and Eric on the jet ski (yes, I drove it!)

Alex heading out on his first knee board ride

Kanyan, Ryann & Alex on the tube and Alex & Kanyan

Will & Kendall and Alex, Jensen & Sarah

Our last morning…

And that, my friends, wraps up our vacation. We had a great time and are hoping to do it again next year. I’ll leave you with one last memory… we had some great video of the early morning ski trips so I put this together. Enjoy!

We’re just back from a great vacation.
Look what Alex learned to do!
We’re so proud of him… and he’s at least as proud of himself.
Way to go, buddy!

I love this... She’s always kept a watchful eye over me.
She’s always had my back.
I love you, mom!

good-bye Harry…

18 Jul

We saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 over the weekend. I believe I started crying about 30 minutes in and I didn’t stop. It was a great film. I loved every minute of it and I think the tears were as much from this being the end of the series as from the plot line. This has been a wonderful series and it’s been so special to share them all with Alex.

Someone linked to this video on Twitter. It’s a great look-back over the movie series, all in five minutes. If you love Harry Potter, I encourage you to take a look…

I’m a sucker for a self-portrait.

I really love that Alex has gotten into the act.

We were taking photos in the backyard and he caught our reflection in a window.

I love it.

(I created a new frame this week. If you’d like a copy of the brush (.abr file), you can find it here.)

Will you miss Harry?

31 May

We are big Harry Potter fans at my house and we are looking forward to the last film installment with excitement and a little bit of sadness. It’s hard to believe that there are no more films to look forward to.

I spend a lot of time thinking about words + photos. When I stumbled across this video asking the stars to share, in one word, the experience of “Harry Potter”, it made me smile. I hope it makes you smile as well. For what it’s worth, I think Emma Watson gets it right.

Playing Catch-up…

11 May

I got the gift of time for Mother’s Day and had a whole bunch of time to play in my office. I got a couple of extra layouts done over the weekend and of course one today in true layout-a-day fashion. Here’s a look:

Scan 3I’ve loved these pictures since I took them almost six years ago. Alex has always been such a character and these photos demonstrate that perfectly!

YouCrackMeUpMore great personality shots! I found these on the camera when I downloaded photos on Sunday afternoon. The day before, Alex had set up the camera on the tripod and took these shots with the self-timer. I seriously love that he does this! I get self-portraits a lot and I love how well they show his funny personality and I love that he seems to love taking pictures as much as I do!

InnocentHere’s my layout for today. A little story about our least favorite ride at Disneyland. Anyone else feel the same way about this thing? It’s awful!

I’m feeling really good about this month’s challenge. I’ve had some good projects to keep things interesting, I’ve reached back to use some older photos which is always fun. I’ve had a lot of great inspiration from the gals who are in this challenge with me, which is always one of the best parts. I’m looking forward to the big fat stack of layouts at the end of the month. Nothing is quite as rewarding as that!
